owls symbolize clear hearing, introspection, mirrors, and mercy.

they are guardians of the sacred direction west in the medicine wheel, often acting as a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms.

in the centre is the adinkra symbol sankofa, meaning "go home and get it", reminding us to honour our ancestors and carry the wisdom of the past into the actions of the present. adinkra symbols come from the west african akan people of côte d'ivoire & ghana, and can be found in various places across jamaica.

the cowries decorating the face are connected to the the orisha yemonja/yemaya, yoruba godess of the sea, known as the mother of all.
